Most graph paper you find online is a fixed 10 squares to the inch, made for math homework, not stitching. This one is built for cross stitch specifically: pick your real fabric count, 8 through 20, and the grid prints at the exact same scale as your Aida or evenweave, so a design you chart by hand lines up one square per stitch when you sit down to work it.

Why graph paper needs to match your fabric count
Standard graph paper is 10 squares per inch. Aida commonly runs 11, 14, 16, or 18, and evenweave and linen run finer still. Sketch a design on generic 10-count graph paper and stitch it on 14-count Aida, and the finished piece comes out a different size and shape than what you drew, because the two grids do not share a scale.
Matching the printed grid to your actual fabric count fixes that. One square on the page becomes one stitch on the fabric, at the same proportions, so a shape you draw on paper looks the same once it is stitched.
Choosing a fabric count and paper size
If you already know what fabric you are stitching on, match its count exactly: 14-count Aida gets 14 squares per inch, 28-count evenweave worked over two threads also gets 14 squares per inch, since two threads together make one stitch. US Letter fits a design up to roughly 105 by 140 stitches at 14-count with a half-inch margin on all sides; A4 is close, just slightly narrower. Landscape orientation swaps which dimension gets the extra room, useful for a wide, short design like a bookmark or a border.

Frequently asked questions
What size is cross stitch graph paper?
There is no single size. Graph paper sold for cross stitch commonly comes in 10, 14, or 18 squares per inch. This generator lets you pick the exact count your fabric uses instead of guessing which pad matches.
Why does my drawn design not match my finished stitching?
The graph paper and the fabric were probably a different count. A design drawn at 10 squares per inch and stitched on 14-count Aida finishes smaller and slightly differently proportioned than it looked on paper.
Can I use this for evenweave or linen instead of Aida?
Yes. Since you stitch those over two threads, use half the fabric’s printed count: 28-count over two is 14 squares per inch, 32-count over two is 16.
Does the printed grid really come out true to size?
Yes, as long as your printer is set to 100% scale or “actual size” when you print the emailed PNG. Browsers and photo apps default some print dialogs to “fit to page,” which rescales everything and throws off the count, so check that setting before you print.
Do I have to enter my email every time?
Only the first time, or after 7 days have passed. While we remember you, changing the fabric count, paper size, or color and hitting download sends you a fresh, correctly sized PNG with no form to fill out.
Can I use the PNG on my phone or tablet instead of printing?
Yes. The emailed PNG works fine as a reference image on a screen, though the true-to-scale sizing only matters once it is printed.
