Welcome to StitchLand. These terms cover what you can expect from us and what we expect from you when you use the site. Plain English, no surprises.

Who we are

StitchLand is a project run by Hunter Freeman as a sole proprietor. When we say “we,” “us,” or “StitchLand,” we mean Hunter Freeman doing business as StitchLand at stitchland.com. When we say “you,” we mean you, the person using the site.

What StitchLand is

StitchLand is a community platform and toolset for stitchers, starting with cross-stitch and expanding into all needlework. Today the site offers:

• A waitlist for the upcoming community beta
• Free tools at /tools/ (StitchScale, Floss Library, Floss Estimator) that work in your browser without an account
• A growing community area for approved beta members

We’re early. Features will change. We’ll do our best to communicate before anything that matters changes.

Your account

To save your spot on the waitlist or join the beta, you need an email, a username, and a password. You must be at least 13 years old (16 in the EU). Your username is yours alone; please don’t impersonate anyone else. You’re responsible for keeping your password safe and for what happens under your account.

You can delete your account at any time by emailing [email protected].

The waitlist

Joining the waitlist doesn’t guarantee access to the beta. We open new waves on our own schedule based on what we can support. Your queue position depends on when you signed up and how many people you refer. Referring someone bumps you forward in line. We may adjust queue mechanics over time and will explain changes when we make them.

Free tools

The tools at /tools/ are provided as-is, free of charge, and without warranty. They’re calculators and reference utilities meant to help with your projects. Always sanity-check important calculations (especially before cutting fabric or buying floss). We’re not liable if a calculation is off.

The DMC color matches we show for non-DMC threads are algorithmic estimates. Real thread colors vary by dye lot and personal eye. If you’re matching colors for a project that matters, check the actual thread in person.

Community rules

When community features are live, we expect everyone to treat each other well. The short version:

• Be kind. Stitchers help stitchers.
• No harassment, hate speech, threats, doxxing, or targeted abuse.
• No spam, scams, or unsolicited advertising.
• Respect copyright. Don’t share patterns you don’t have the right to share.
• Keep things appropriate for a public craft community. No explicit content, no illegal content.

We may remove content or accounts that break these rules. If your account is removed, we’ll usually email you to explain.

Your content

Anything you post (profile, projects, photos, comments) stays yours. By posting, you give us permission to host it, display it, and use it to operate the site. If you delete it, we delete our copy too (except for short-term backups that age out, and any content others have already saved or quoted).

Don’t post anything that isn’t yours to post, including patterns under copyright, photos that aren’t yours, or trademarks you don’t have rights to use.

Paid features

StitchLand is free today. We may introduce paid features in the future (premium tools, expanded community features, etc.). If we do:

• We’ll tell you what’s paid and what stays free before you’re asked to pay anything.
• Payments will be processed by a regulated provider (most likely Stripe). We don’t see or store your card details.
• Subscriptions can be cancelled any time. Refunds are case-by-case, handled fairly. Email us if you have a problem.

What we promise (and don’t)

We work to keep the site available, but we don’t guarantee uptime. The site, tools, and content are provided “as-is.” We don’t warrant that everything will work perfectly or that the data will be free of errors. We’re not liable for indirect or consequential damages (lost projects, missed deadlines, etc.) arising from your use of the site. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the greater of $50 or what you’ve paid us in the prior 12 months.

This isn’t us being unfriendly; it’s standard language that lets a small project like this exist without an existential lawsuit risk.

Closing your account

You can close your account at any time. We can close or suspend an account if you break these terms, abuse the platform, or threaten the safety of other members. If we do, we’ll tell you why where it’s appropriate.

Changes

We’ll update these terms as the product grows. Significant changes will be emailed to everyone with an account so you can review before they take effect. Continued use of the site after a change means you accept the updated terms.

Law

These terms are governed by the laws of the United States. Any dispute will be handled in the state where the operator (Hunter Freeman) is based, unless a different forum is required by your local consumer protection law.

Privacy Policy

StitchLand is a small project run by Hunter Freeman as a sole proprietor. This policy explains what we collect, why, and what we do with it. We try to be honest and concrete instead of hiding behind legal boilerplate.

The short version

• To use the site we need an email, a username, and a password.
• We use Google Analytics to understand how the site is used.
• We run advertising pixels (Meta, TikTok, and similar) so our ads on those platforms can find people who’d like StitchLand.
• We use Resend to send transactional emails and MailerLite to send newsletters and updates.
• We do not sell or rent your personal information.
• You can delete your account and your data any time by emailing [email protected].

What we collect

Account data

When you save your spot or join the beta, we collect:

• Your email address
• The username you pick
• A hashed version of your password (we never see your actual password)
• The referral code that brought you here, if any
• The date you joined and your position in the queue

Server logs

Our web host (Hostinger) and our CDN (Cloudflare) keep standard access logs for every request: your IP, the page you requested, the time, your browser, and the page you came from. We use these only to run the site, diagnose problems, and protect against abuse. They’re held for a short window (typically 30 days).

Cookies and trackers

We use cookies and tracking pixels for the following purposes:

• Login. Required for staying signed in.
• Referral tracking. If you arrive through a referral link, we store the code so the right person gets credit when you sign up.
• Analytics. We use Google Analytics to count visits and understand which pages people use. Google Analytics sets its own cookies and processes your data per Google’s privacy policy.
• Advertising pixels. We run Meta (Facebook/Instagram), TikTok, and possibly other platform pixels (Pinterest, X, Google Ads) so we can measure ads we run on those platforms and reach similar people. These pixels send the platforms standard event data (page views, signups) tied to anonymous identifiers. Their privacy practices are governed by Meta’s policy, TikTok’s policy, and the respective platforms.

You can opt out of most advertising tracking through your browser settings, your device’s ad-tracking controls, or industry opt-out tools like the DAA opt-out and NAI opt-out.

Email

We use Resend for transactional email (welcome messages, password resets, beta admits) and MailerLite for newsletters and product updates. Both see your email address so they can deliver mail. Their privacy policies are at resend.com/legal/privacy-policy and mailerlite.com/legal/privacy-policy. You can unsubscribe from any non-essential email with one click.

Tools

Our free tools at /tools/ (StitchScale, Floss Library, Floss Estimator) work entirely in your browser. They don’t send your input back to us and don’t require an account.

Community features

Once community is live, anything you post publicly (profile, group posts, activity feed) is public. Anything you mark private stays private. We’ll describe the settings clearly in the community itself.

What we might add later

• Payments for premium features. If you buy something, payment will be processed by a regulated processor (likely Stripe). We never see or store your card details.
• Additional analytics or attribution tools. If we add any, we’ll update this policy.

How we use your data

We use your account data to:

• Let you log in and use the site
• Calculate your waitlist position and process referrals
• Send you account-related emails (welcome, password reset, beta admit) and, where you’ve signed up, our newsletter
• Understand how the site is used (analytics)
• Measure and improve our ads on platforms like Meta and TikTok
• Respond when you contact us
• Investigate abuse or security incidents

We do not sell your personal information. We share data only with the service providers we use to run the site (web host, CDN, email senders, analytics, ad platforms) and only to the extent each provider needs it to do its job.

Your rights

You can:

• See what data we have about you
• Correct any of it
• Download a copy
• Delete your account and everything tied to it
• Opt out of marketing emails (one-click unsubscribe in every newsletter)
• Opt out of ad tracking via your browser or platform settings

Email [email protected] for any of these. We try to handle requests within 30 days.

If you’re in the EU, UK, or California, you have additional rights under GDPR, UK GDPR, or CCPA, including the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

Children

StitchLand is not directed at children under 13 (or under 16 in the EU). We don’t knowingly collect data from minors. If you’re a parent and believe your child has signed up, email us and we’ll delete the account.

Security

Passwords are stored as one-way hashes. The site runs over HTTPS. The database is on Hostinger’s managed infrastructure. No system is perfect, but we take this seriously. If we discover a breach affecting your account, we will notify you.

Changes

We’ll update this page when things change. If a change is significant, we’ll email everyone with an account so you can review before it takes effect.
